The Capay Organic farm in Yolo County will again host Outstanding in the Field, a touring series of gourmet dinners held outdoors at farms across the country.
Capay Organic has hosted the dinner annually since 2012. This year's dinner, scheduled for June 3, will be Outstanding in the Field's only event in the Sacramento area.
The dinner is a means of marketing for the farm, its Farm Fresh to You food delivery service and agritourism in Yolo County.
The hosts of the dinner are the farmers and owners of Capay Organic, brothers Thaddeus Barsotti, Freeman Barsotti and Noah Barnes. The meal will be prepared by chef Oliver Ridgeway of Grange restaurant at the Citizen hotel in Sacramento.
Outstanding in the Field started 17 years ago in Santa Cruz, when founder Jim Denevan invited guests to sit at a long table at a local farm and enjoy a dinner made by local chefs. The company has now put on more than 700 events at farms, ranches, sea coves, vineyards and other places where food is produced. Other events this year are in St. Helena, Petaluma, Paso Robles and Santa Cruz, among national and international destinations.
At Capay Organic, the farm provides much of the produce for the dinner.
Outstanding in the Field basically rents the farm as a venue to present the dinner, said Barbara Archer, spokeswoman for the farm and its associated community supported agriculture business Farm Fresh to You. That business makes thousands of produce and farm product deliveries statewide every week.
The dinner this year will cost $215 per person. Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. on March 20. The 170 seats have typically sold out in less than 72 hours, Archer said.
“A lot of the people who come out are our customers. People come from the Bay Area, Sacramento region. It is a destination dinner,” Archer said. “It is a special occasion dinner.”
